My Photography

Hi - thanks for dropping by to visit............

The main photographs on my website are all taken at Borth in Ceredigion, in mid-Wales.  Borth is the location of many happy childhood holidays and somewhere I have returned to regularly over the years.  You can see the images grouped in 'themes' under the 'Portfolio' heading above.

My photography has been inspired by the relationship between the sea, the stones and the groynes on the beach at Borth.  I love being by the sea, just watching the tides move in and out.  I became fascinated observing the natural world at work.

I published 'A Coastal Reflection’ - a book containing over 30 of my favourite Borth images, at the end of 2010.  Little did I know I was creating unwittingly something of an historical record as many of the groynes have now disappeared from the beach to make way for the new stronger sea defences.  For more on 'what happened next' check out the 'About' section.

I have been surprised and delighted by the interest in my work and the requests to have my images produced as canvas or block prints has given me an unexpected second and very different career.

If you would like to enjoy one of my books or have an image in your home, please use the Contact page to get in touch.

Borth continues to make headlines...
When there are Winter and Spring storms, as in 2013/14, there is a significant re-emergence of areas of the forest skeletons on parts of the beach.  Have a look at the Borth Forest tab for some of my images of the prehistoric forest taken as far back as 2007.

ADRIFT GALLERY, Borth
This was the location of my first Borth exhibition in July 2011 and was a second exhibition there during Summer 2016.  The Gallery is just a stone's throw from the location of many of the images, though of course the beach now looks completely different!!

Private Exhibition, Dovehouse Dentistry Solihull July 2014 - March 2015
Many thanks to Linda for all her efforts in making this happen.  I'm really delighted that some of the work has remained on permanent display there.

Plas Newydd June 2013
Comments from those who visited this exhibition were much appreciated.
Huge thanks to Alfreda McHale for her expert help in setting up the exhibition.  Thanks also to Jane Perfect, from Plas Newydd, Anglesey  for all her invaluable help with the planning.

Henley Exhibition 2012
Thank you to Phil Radcliff for sponsoring the exhibition.  Many thanks again to Alfreda and especially also to Pat McHale, on this occasion, for being the genius who worked out HOW to hang the exhibition! Also thanks to Pauline, Asha and Susie for their help at the Private View, as well as to all the friends and family who visited.

Thank you for your interest in my work

April 2022

Thanks for visiting my 'new look' website and thanks to Tobie at TheArtsWeb for his patience and skill during the updating process.

In 2018 I added two new Folios to the website to display some Tuscany & Venice images from past photography tours and will be adding some from Umbria,  Cornwall and the Lake District in due course.

In 2019 I was delighted to learn that my first book 'A Coastal Reflection' has been recommended by Karen Massey in an interview with Paul Wilkinson on his podcast 'Mastering Portrait Photography'.  What a lovely conversation between two very successful photographers.

It's well over 10 years now since my first photography exhibition, I can't quite believe that!

I'm looking forward to getting back over to the Welsh coast in the next couple of months to see what has been happening in the recent past.

Mary
